What if your wedding invitation came with one tiny warning: the bride might survive, but the groom probably won’t?
Welcome to Vanshagarh, a village where weddings have become less about pheras and more about survival. For fifteen years, every attempt at marriage has ended in disaster, and the villagers know exactly whom to blame: Naishka, a terrifying supernatural presence who has made sure that no wedding in the village reaches a happy ending.
The latest wedding begins in suitably unsettling fashion. Everyone is dressed in white, the atmosphere resembles a funeral rather than a celebration, and a disturbed villager named Rajat keeps warning everyone that the marriage will not happen. His warnings soon prove frighteningly accurate when strange events unfold and the groom disappears. Once again, Vanshagarh is reminded that Naishka is not a legend the villagers can simply ignore.
And then Meera comes home.
Played by Payal Gupta, Meera is everything Vanshagarh’s fearful residents are not. She is educated, confident, and far too rational to be impressed by ghost stories. She arrives with her fiancé Virat, ready to introduce him to her father and begin preparing for their marriage. But when Meera discovers that the village believes Naishka will stop her wedding too, she does not retreat. She challenges the mysterious spirit instead.
That may not have been the wisest wedding-planning decision.
Meera is determined to marry Virat in Vanshagarh, partly because she wants to prove that the curse is nothing more than superstition and partly because she wants to fulfil a deeply personal wish connected to her late mother. Her father, Adesh Thakur, is considerably less enthusiastic. He knows far more about Naishka than he is willing to tell his daughter.
Soon, the village begins to feel less like home and more like a warning.
A chilling message appears in Meera’s room. Strange signs follow. Even the wedding preparations begin attracting unsettling supernatural disturbances. Yet Meera refuses to give Naishka the satisfaction of backing down.
Then comes Adrith, played by Shubham Goswami.
Initially introduced as Virat’s eccentric friend, Adrith seems like an unusually dramatic wedding guest. He is studying for a PhD abroad, has an odd collection of bottles and behaves as though he knows much more about the supernatural than he lets on. Before long, however, it becomes clear that there is something genuinely unusual about him. Adrith can communicate with spirits, and unlike everyone else in Vanshagarh, he seems intrigued rather than terrified by Naishka.
As Meera’s wedding preparations continue, Adrith begins venturing into the jungle and actively searching for the entity everyone else is desperate to avoid. His investigation only makes things stranger. The closer he gets to Naishka, the more dangerous the situation becomes, while Meera finds herself increasingly caught between her determination to get married and the terrifying forces surrounding her.
But who exactly is Naishka?
That question becomes increasingly important as Adrith starts uncovering fragments of a much older mystery. Behind the supernatural disturbances lies a past that the village has spent years trying to forget. At the centre of that mystery is Sia, played by Sheetal Tiwari, whose connection to Naishka adds an emotional layer to the horror. Even as the villagers see Naishka as a monster, Adrith begins to suspect that there is considerably more to her than meets the eye.
And that is where Bhoot-Kaal really turns the screws.
What begins with a cursed wedding soon becomes a mystery involving hidden secrets, supernatural powers, old wounds and a village that may know much more than it is saying. With Meera refusing to surrender, Adrith determined to uncover the truth, and Naishka growing increasingly powerful, the question is no longer simply whether Meera and Virat will get married.
It is whether anyone in Vanshagarh is ready for the truth that comes with the curse.
