The Westward Anime Season 2
The Westward Anime Season 2
This show follows a mythic pilgrimage that keeps breaking apart under pressure from heaven, family conflict, and hidden loyalties. At the center is Tang San Zang and his companions, who are trying to continue their journey while repeatedly being pulled into crises that test obedience and trust. Early on, Sun Wukong refuses to surrender a mysterious figure at Jade Hall, even after Tang San Zang orders him to comply. His defiance turns him into a traitor in the eyes of heaven, and celestial forces ultimately overpower and kill him. That loss leaves Tang San Zang responsible for the fallout, while the wider journey continues in a fractured state. The story then shifts toward Bajie, whose personal life becomes a battlefield of its own. He is trapped in a family crisis involving his wife Qiulan and a treacherous younger brother, and a false promise about freeing her is exposed. Bajie pleads for rescue, while enemies taunt him and claim the spouse is dead, forcing the master and disciples into another fight. Tang San Zang shows knowledge of the enemy clan’s energy-draining powers and joins the struggle, and Bajie returns to battle to protect his master and defend his honor. As the conflict grows, royal interruption and crowd pressure turn the fight into a dispute over legitimacy and rulership. In the later arc, the focus shifts again to Sun Wukong, who awakens with erased memories and questions whether he once had a family or loved one. His master pushes him toward duty and insists that heaven needs a strong protector, even as their relationship remains tense. The pilgrimage then enters an underwater rescue mission to recover a disciple whose soul has been trapped for sixteen years. Tang San Zang leads the group into the South Sea Dragon King’s domain, where Ao Guang and his sons resist the attempt to reclaim the sealed disciple. Humiliation and rebellion inside the dragon palace widen the conflict into dragon clan politics and celestial intervention. Tang San Zang threatens to destroy the palace and break the seal if the truth is not revealed, showing how far the rescue has escalated. A conflicted ally helps in the underwater struggle, the Dragon Soul awakens, and the power is transferred to that figure for safekeeping. By the end, the seal weakens further, heavenly forces move in, and the battle expands into a larger war over bodies, souls, and loyalty. Sun Wukong’s rebirth brings old grievances back to the surface, setting up renewed confrontation with Tang Sanzang, Erlang Shen, and the dragon king’s demand for vengeance. Across all of these threads, the show keeps asking whether the disciples can remain loyal to the journey when heaven, family, and personal memory all pull them in different directions.
