The Raven King's Bride
The Raven King's Bride
Elaira, also called Elara or Elyra, begins as a gifted scholar-princess in a frozen empire whose work is stolen by her own family and court. Her translated Sunwell research is publicly claimed by another woman, while her betrothed humiliates her and helps erase her credit. Her mother, the queen, strips her rank and seals her magic, leaving her politically disposable. To solve a crisis, the crown offers her as tribute to Lord Vane, the feared Raven King of the Black Highlands. A magical collar binds her breathing to his heartbeat, turning her captivity into a cruel forced-proximity bond. She is dragged into the Highlands as property, but Vane insists the bond is meant to keep her alive in poisoned air and dangerous travel. Inside his stronghold, she resists his authority and clashes with the household, yet she also begins to reveal hidden strength through magic, machinery, and hearthcraft. Her restoration of the hearth fire shocks the fortress and shows that her power was never truly gone. As the conflict widens, trade, territory, and broken treaties push the mountain rulers and the southern court toward open confrontation. Vane raises firestone coal prices in revenge for the capital’s cruelty, and the political struggle becomes tied to grief, honor, and survival. Elara refuses to remain sheltered and insists on fighting beside Vane as an equal. She proves herself as an alchemist and healer, able to save the fortress as well as defend it. Their bond deepens through wards, poison, and siege, making survival and intimacy inseparable. At the same time, Elara is forced to face the people who abandoned her and the possibility that her family’s messages are traps. Jackson and the southern prince reappear as symbols of the court that tried to erase her, and Elara openly defies them. Vane claims her as his wife and rejects southern authority, turning her personal betrayal into a larger challenge to royal power. By the end of the batch, Elara’s humiliation has hardened into resolve, and the central question is whether loyalty, family, and destiny can survive the violence of the frozen kingdom.
