Hate you to the moon and back
Hate you to the moon and back
Marcus’s story centers on a man trapped between a hidden past, a broken family, and a space program in crisis. At first, he is treated as a nobody, even publicly humiliated when his estranged daughter Ava rejects him. That humiliation is undercut by a larger truth: Marcus is tied to SpaceGen in a far more important way than anyone around him realizes. As the company’s Mars and orbital efforts begin to fail, pressure builds for him to return and help solve the emergency. His hidden identity as the founder and key engineer of SpaceGen is gradually exposed, shifting him from mocked outsider to indispensable authority. The crisis is not only technical but political, since foreign agents also try to lure him away for his thruster blueprints. While the space stakes rise, his private life keeps collapsing around him. Karen’s pregnancy, her divided loyalties, and the presence of Avian and later Dean deepen the sense that Marcus has lost his place in his own home. He is blamed, insulted, and pushed into humiliating positions by Karen’s family and by rivals who use wealth and status against him. Even when he tries to step away from SpaceGen and hand over his stake for Ava’s future, the mission emergency pulls him back in. The company’s survival depends on his knowledge, and the astronauts’ safety becomes urgent enough to override his wish to leave. At the same time, his relationship with Serena remains unresolved, adding another emotional pressure point. Serena supports him and wants him to stop chasing Karen, but Marcus cannot fully let go of his marriage or his daughter. Public confrontations repeatedly expose old resentment, especially when Karen and her allies dismiss his sacrifices and deny his authority. By the end of the batch, Marcus has reclaimed control of SpaceGen in the face of crisis, but his family life remains fractured and his reputation is still under attack. The show’s tension comes from that split: he may be powerful enough to save the mission, yet still unable to repair the damage at home.
